Following the traditions: Representatives of Naberezhnye Chelny State Pedagogical University give presentations at scientific readings at Maxim Gorky Literature Institute

On October 19, 2024, Maxim Gorky Literature Institute hosted the XXVII annual scientific readings “Language as a tool of literature” (Gorshkov’s readings). Traditionally, the scientific readings bring together the researchers in the field of the Russian language and stylistics. This year, the readings were dedicated to the memory of the Doctor of Philological Sciences, the author of the school and university textbooks on stylistics, Old Slavonic language, history of the Russian literary language, a Prize laureate of the RF government Alexander Gorshkov (1923-2024) who had worked at Maxim Gorky Literature Institute for many years.

The representatives of Naberezhnye Chelny State Pedagogical University always take part in the work of the readings. This year, they have been participating in them for the seventh time.

Konstantin Kalinin, the Acting Head of the Department of Russian and Tatar Philology, PhD in Philology, gave a presentation on “About the image of the author in old Russian teachings” at the plenary meeting.

On the basis of Gorshkov’s conceptual provisions, he formulated the main features of the author’s image in the rhetorical text. The key thing was a tendency to have an objectification of the narration revealing, mainly, Christian truths which coincide with the author’s position. The speaker reinforced his observation by providing the examples from the teachings of Theodosius Pechersky (11th century). The organizers noted that Konstantin Kalinin was the last scholar who had been given scientific advice by 100-year-old Alexander Gorshkov.

As part of the readings there were two sections dedicated to various aspects of teaching and learning the Russian language and literature. Ruzil Zagertdinov, NCSPU graduate student, a member of a scientific society, gave a presentation on “The transformation of the name of the hero as a tool of creating the author’s myth.” In his presentation, he highlighted that the change of the hero’s name is a structural principle of a narrative style of the author which helps seal fragmented, chaotic composition of a postmodern text and becomes a tool in the organization of the author’s myth in postmodern literature.

The articles will be published in the next issue of the Bulletin of Maxim Gorky Literature Institute.
