“I was ready to love the whole world.” Professors of Naberezhnye Chelny State Pedagogical University hold Lermontov’s party in Algeria

The professors of Naberezhnye Chelny State Pedagogical University held a literary party dedicated to the works of M. Lermontov. On October 15th, the admirers of the great Russian poet marked the 210th anniversary since the birth of the poet. The poetic evening was held with the support from the Russian Embassy in Algeria.

The poems by M.Lermontov were performed y by our fellow countrymen and Algerians, children and adults. The party was attended by Alexei Kocheshkov, Charge d’Affaires in Algeria.

NCSPU professors Tatiana Yurieva, Elena Kulagina, Natalya Sladkova and Tatiana Dzhadi state: “The event was very heartfelt. And then, over a cup of tea, we continued the discussion…”

The teachers of the project “Russian teacher abroad” helped to organize the event. The event was initiated by the Association of the fellow countrymen who live in Algeria.

Mikhail Lermontov is a Russian poet, novelist and playwright; he is one of the largest representatives of Russian literature of the 19th century.

He was born on October 15th, 1814, in Moscow to the family of nobles. His talents were revealed quite early; in the 1830s, he became famous due to his poems. Lermontov studied at Moscow University but was expelled for the participation in the student unrest. Later, he served in the army which influenced his works. In 1837, after Pushkin’s death, he wrote a poem “Death of the Poet”; for which he was exiled to the Caucasus. His works cover the topics of loneliness, fight, love and fate. The most famous works are the poems “Demon”, “Mtsyri” and his novel “Hero of our time”. Lermontov died in a duel on July 27th, 1841. His legacy made a significant impact on Russian literature and culture
