Regina Shaydullina, a student at Naberezhnye Chelny State Pedagogical
University, became the strongest in the women's 45 kg weight category at the
Russian Weightlifting Championship, which started in St. Petersburg. Regina lifted
65 kg in the snatch, 89 kg in the clean and jerk, for a total of 154 kg.
Regina has now won the national championship for the fifth consecutive year. She

Regina achieved international success by winning the European Junior
Championship in Finland. Regina graduated with honors from the Kazan School of
Olympic Reserve and is currently a 4th-year student in NCSPU Faculty of Physical
“I'm over the moon with this victory. I never give up. I came to weightlifting at 18,
which is quite late. But I had a good foundation, as I had done professional track
and field athletics for 4 years before. In track and field, I earned the Candidate for
Master of Sports title. In weightlifting, I am a Master of Sport. And I have once
again confirmed my status,” Regina shared.
Milana Kutyakina, an NCSPU 2nd-year student, also competed at the
championship. In the 55 kg weight category, Milana won three medals: bronze in
the snatch, silver in the clean and jerk, and bronze in the total.
“St. Petersburg welcomed us well; they gave out lots of gifts before the start and
after for winning prizes. For the first time, they provided massage therapists at the
start – you could get a massage or a rubdown with warming ointments. I
performed decently, there was a technical error, but it's just a stage in life. My
coach said I shouldn't dwell on it too much. Next year, I plan to take first place,
not be licking the dust of my rivals, whose heels I'm already starting to step on,”
Milana told us.
Milana Kutyakina comes from Zelenodolsk. She was also among the best at theEuropean Weightlifting Championship. At that event in Ciechanów, Poland,
competing in the 49 kg category for girls under 17, she won a silver medal with a
total of 161 kg (69 kg snatch, 92 kg clean and jerk).
The Russian Championship serves as a qualifier for the World Championships,
which will be held in October in Norway.
