The Faculty of History and Philology of Naberezhnye Chelny State Pedagogical
University hosted a scientific and educational event - a round table on “Myths
about the Great Patriotic War”. The event was initiated by the military historical
society “Heirs of Victory” and brought together lots of students.
The event was attended by Dean of the Faculty, Associate Professor Gulnur
Polkina, Head of the Department of History and Methods of Teaching, Doctor of
Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Irina Kornilova, Associate Professor of
History and Methods of Teaching Gulnara Burdina, as well as students of the
Faculty of History and Philology, which created an atmosphere of lively
interdisciplinary communication. Ilshat Sabirov, the organizer and moderator of
the round table, Associate Professor of the Department of History and Teaching
Methods, set a special professional tone for the meeting; he noted that exposing
myths is not rewriting history; it is working hard to identify distortions and restore
the truth based on documents and facts. History students, members of the “Heirs of
Victory” society, presented reports based on the analysis of historical sources and
scientific literature. The speakers turned to the history of the creation and use of
NKVD (People’s Commissariat for Internal Affairs) barrage detachments during
the Great Patriotic War. The speakers emphasized that the main function of the
detachments was not to shoot at their own, but to organize a barrier service in the
near rear to detain deserters and alarmists, as well as to check the soldiers who had
straggled from their units. Their activities were regulated by directives, and the
main method of struggle was arrest and subsequent transfer to the tribunal.
Dean of the Faculty Gulnur Polkina thanked the organizers and participants,
noting the high level of training and the importance of such educational work for
the consolidation of students. The head of the military history society “Heirs of
Victory”, on behalf of all participants, announced that educational events in theround table format would be continued for students of the historical, philological
and other faculties of NCSPU. The next meeting is scheduled for November this
year and will be devoted to continuing the study of controversial issues in the
history of the Great Patriotic War.
