Commemorative event dedicated to Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Genocide of the Soviet People is held at Children’s Center “Smena”

In the lead-up to the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Genocide of the
Soviet People Committed by the Nazis and Their Accomplices During the Great
Patriotic War of 1941–1945, a commemorative event titled “Fiery Paintings of
War” was held at the All-Russian Children’s Center “Smena,” which is under the
jurisdiction of the Russian Ministry of Education. The event took place as part of
the thematic session of the educational project “Without Statute of Limitations”
and brought together 150 schoolchildren from various regions of the country.
At the monument to Heroes of the Soviet Union – to graduates of the vocational
colleges - the children arranged the number 13,684,692 using candles. The fiery
composition became a symbol of remembrance by today’s generation for every
person who fell at the hands of the Nazis during the Great Patriotic War.
Participants of the educational project “Without Statute of Limitations,” who are
attending the specialized session supported by the Russian Ministry of Education,
joined the event.
“Commemorative events give us the opportunity not to forget the heroic deeds of
our compatriots. By recalling how many lives of peaceful civilians - innocent
victims of fascist aggression - were brutally destroyed by war, we teach children to
analyze the lessons of the past. Each candle lit by a child represents one story, one
broken thread between generations. By bringing them together, we grasp the scale
of the tragedy for the entire country and strive to immortalize the feat of every
person whose life was taken by the war,” emphasized Igor Zhuravlev, Director of
the “Smena” Children’s Center.
On the Day of Unified Action in Remembrance of the Genocide of the Soviet
People, another event will take place at “Smena” - “Memory Knots - the Living
Thread of Generations.” It will bring together children, teachers, invited public
figures, and representatives of search teams. Each participant will receive the nameof a child who perished during the Great Patriotic War, write it on a ribbon, and tie
a knot. The names of the children are taken from the archives of the Extraordinary
State Commission. The artifact will then be placed in the museum of the “Smena”
Children’s Center.
